We are people of African descent from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, the Caribbean, and beyond. We are here to contribute the economy, the culture, and the community of Arusha and Tanzania as a whole.
Millions of people were taken from this continent. They built other nations, raised other cultures, and their children were told, generation after generation, that they did not belong… not there, not anywhere.
Meanwhile, on the continent, Tanzania was built on the philosophy of Ujamaa. This is a radical declaration that a community’s strength is built together.
The UAAR was founded at the meeting point of these two stories. Resources and community for the diaspora coming home. Innovation, entrepreneurs, and collaborators for Tanzania.
Umoja means unity. We mean it.
Our members don’t just live here. They build businesses, organizations, and institutions that serve the wider community.
